The "Trans-national PLant Alliance for Novel Technologies - towards implementing the Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy in Europe" (PLANT-KBBE) funding measure is a joint initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the French Ministry of Research and Innovation (DGRI) – represented by the National Research Agency (ANR) – and the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (MEC).

Nowadays, modern agriculture needs to be increasingly oriented towards sustainability, in particular as it is necessary to cater not only for the worldwide growing need of food, but also the growing demand for renewable resources for the generation of raw material, biomass and bioenergy. These goals cannot be reached without the sustainable structuring of the plant sciences within the European Community. Based on these challenges and the successful cooperation between Germany, France and Spain in the field of plant genome research, it is hoped that the partners’ common interests will be further deepened through the implementation of a new funding initiative (“PLANT-KBBE”).

A list of potential research topics will be published at www.fz-juelich.de/ptj/plant or can be ordered from the project management organisation. The Federal Ministry of Education has commissioned its Project Management Organisation Jülich (PtJ), Biotechnology Division, Research Centre Jülich GmbH, to coordinate the funding measure.
